Brothers Soar! Wright Brothers Take to the Skies!

By: Katy Coleman

Kill Devil Hill, (December, 17, 1903), Wilbur and Orville Wright, two bicycle repair shop owners have successfully completed their dreams of creating a powered and controlled flight machine, thus making aviation possible.

They suffered many delays earlier this week caused by broken propeller shafts. This first flight, made by Orville at 10:35 am, of 120 feet in 12 seconds, at a speed of only 6.8 miles per hour during freezing headwind gusting about 27 miles per hour.

Keep Calm and Fiddle On

Join Shepherd University Program Board as they rock the day away at Shepfest 2013, featuring show-stopping, high-energy, take-no-prisoners country singer Natalie Stovall. Shepfest is a free concert and carnival all-in-one. Shepfest will also host inflatable novelties such as there will laser tag, mechanical bull, obstacle course and tons a free food!

Natalie started playing the violin at the age of four and professionally performing since 10 years old. Natalie blends her country roots background with a strong rock sensibility to create fiddle shredding shows for a wide variety of audiences. By the end of high school she had already performed everywhere from the Grand Ole Opry to the Oprah Winfrey Show. In 2012, Natalie was named Entertainer of the Year by Campus Activities Magazine in the Reader’s Choice Awards. She was the female artist named in the category in 20 years.

Program Board is looking for volunteers during the event. If you'd be interested in helping and a free t-shirt go to the Volgistics page, there you can sign up to volunteer.

Shepfest is this Saturday, Sept. 7, 4pm-8pm on the Intramurals Field. It is going to be AMAZING!!
